Care for Real offers pet food at every food distribution at the Edgewater pantry for food pantry clients. Food distribution is offered in Edgewater at 5339 N. Sheridan Rd. on Mondays from 4-7pm, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9am-12pm, and Saturdays from 9am-1pm.

Pet Pantry Information

To receive pet food, guests must be a client of the Care for Real food pantry at either the Edgewater or Rogers Park location. A client is defined as a guest who has received groceries from the pantry at least once in the previous 30 days. To receive pet food, clients must bring a photo ID to their first visit to enroll in the food pantry program. Existing clients can update their pet food needs at check-in during their next visit. Clients may request pet food during their food pantry visit once every 30 days.

Neighbors in need of pet food, but not groceries from Care for Real due to enrollment in a different food program, can provide another form of documentation to demonstrate need including:

Letter from another food pantry on their letterhead
Meals on Wheels enrollment letter
Recent SNAP determination letter

Pet owners need to register their pet(s) with Care for Real by providing pet’s name, age, and dietary needs. Pet food is in limited supply and Care for Real will provide food for up to four pets that live in the same household as the registered client. Pet food cannot be provided for feral cats in the neighborhood, shelters, or the pets of clients’ neighbors. If a client is unable to take home their groceries and pet food in the same visit, a client may make a sperate pet pantry only visit once a month during food distribution hours. Clients should bring sturdy bags and/or a cart to carry pet food.
