Care for Real Responds to the COVID-19 Epidemic
Just as we are dedicated to continuing serving our community throughout the COVID-19 epidemic, we also committed to keeping you informed about our response throughout this emergency. Please check back here for updates on how the crisis is impacting our neighbors in need and what we are doing to respond.
In response to the COVID-19 outbreak, Care for Real modified our food distribution model in order to minimize contact between our staff, volunteers and clients. We remain committed to providing food for our neighbors in need while we continue to be that lifeline for all.
Temporary updates for clients participating in our food program include:
• Clients are greeted by a staff member or volunteer outside our door who will fill out an intake form requesting some key information, including name, date of birth, monthly/weekly pickup preference, and whether they are a new client.
• Clients will wait in line outside while we process registration inside our facility.
• Once registration is completed, volunteers will bring groceries outside and place them on a table for pick up. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer our client choice model during this time. Clients will, however, still receive a healthy variety of fresh produce, dairy, meat and non-perishable pantry goods. Groceries are prepackaged bags and ready for clients to grab and go quickly.
Care for Real is here for our neighbors in need and helping those experiencing job loss or other economic challenges related to the COVID-19 epidemic. Our numbers are going up. In March, we saw a 50% increase in new clients coming to us for the first time. Care for Real is rising to the challenge, and we hope you will join us to meet the increasing need in our very own community.
