Care for Real experiences very busy May 2017
May 2017 was the busiest month Care for Real experienced in a long time. 5,402 individuals from 2,972 households participated in our food program and another 588 households (and approximately 1,300 individuals) received clothing and personal care items. 93 new clients came through our doors for the very first time – primarily seniors who are unable to keep up with the rising costs of basic human needs. This weekend: Meet the Care for Real Team at Andersonville Midsommarfest 2017!
Andersonville Midsommarfest 2017 kicks off this Friday, June 9 from 5:00 pm – 10:00 pm and continues June 10-11 from 11:00 am – 10:00 pm. These is a $10 suggested donation at the gate (kids under 12 and seniors are free). This year, Care for Real volunteers will be at the Balmoral East beer tent on Saturday night, the Balmoral West beer tent on Sunday morning and the Balmoral East beer tent on Sunday night. Part of the proceeds from each tent will benefit Care for Real. Stop by and say hi to the Care for Real team!
Care for Real Board Member Steven Pryor and partner Gregg Rojewski named Edgewater Living Treasures
The Edgewater Historical Society will be honoring Care for Real Board Member and Pack the Car founder, Steven Pryor, and his partner, Gregg Rojewski, as Edgewater’s Living Treasures at a community wide event, Saturday, June 10 1:00pm at The Edgewater Library, 6000 N. Broadway.

Care for Real Development/Communications Associate
Reporting to the Development Director, this position provides administrative and creative support for office operations, annual fundraising efforts and special events, donor database management and development of promotional materials.
Essential duties and responsibilities include:
- Support the Development Director and Executive Director in their work
- Manage the donor database including entry and analysis of all donor gifts and key constituent information; submission for and management of corporate matching gifts, and pledge tracking.
- Provide support for special events and fundraising efforts including logistics, volunteer recruitment, preparation of promotional materials, etc.
- Develop internal and external communications materials including e-newsletters, brochures, posters, etc.
- Manage website and social media including Twitter and Instagram
- Coordinate direct mail and digital appeals
- Complete new projects as assigned and take the initiative to further Care for Real’s overall success
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Computer and graphic skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign
- Database knowledge and experience; familiarity with donor management software a plus
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Flexibility to work evening and weekends, scheduled in advance, in support of benefits as needed
- Demonstrated ability to efficiently manage multiple work assignments and to prioritize work in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to ask questions, anticipate hurdles and solve practical problems independently
- Ability to take initiative as well as direction

Cheetah Gym Hosts Annual Prom Dress Drive
For the second year, Care for Real is hosting our Prom Dress Drive for teens in need. From now until April 30, drop off dresses, jewelry, makeup, accessories or shoes at Care for Real or the lobby at Cheetah Gym, 5248 N Clark St. This year, Care for Real is also accepting tuxedos, suits and other formal shoes! Donations at Care for Real will be accepted Monday-Friday from 9am – 3:30pm and Saturday 9am – 12:30pm at the back door only.

About the show: A comedy about life in a Lake Shore Drive high-rise condo building where a professional student from the University of Chicago is moonlighting as a janitor, a stressed-out apartment manager is at odds with the residents and on the edge of a nervous breakdown, and a motley assortment of other staff members struggles with survival in the face of urban pandemonium. And with the fact that one of them may be breaking into the units and stealing women’s underwear. City Lit’s fourth Douglas Post show, following the world premiere of Somebody Foreign and two holiday productions of his musical adaptation of The Wind in the Willows.
EBA hosts 2nd Annual Art Fair, March 25, to benefit Care for Real
Edgewater Beach Apartments will be hosting its Second Annual Art Fair on March 25, 10:30 AM to 3:30 pm. The artists have been requested to donate 10% of their proceeds to Care For Real.! The Care For Real Donation Jar will also be available for cash contributions.
There is no admission fee and the general public is invited. Paintings, prints, photographs, and jewelry will be featured.

Join us Saturday, December 10 for the North Halsted Pub Crawl sponsored by North End and Revolution Brewing.
